Can I use a cello bow on a double bass?
I’m in the process of building my own electric upright bass, and I’m looking for a cheap bow to start off with. I found some nice looking baroque style snakewood cello bows on ebay and was wondering if a cello bow would produce a quality sound, given that everything else with the instrument functions properly.
You can. I’ve heard people in my section do it before, but it just doesn’t sound the same. The main thing that gives the bass its amazing sound is the stickier rosin that it uses. So using that on a cello bow might help a little bit, but it won’t sound as good as using a bass bow.
