Violin Chinrest help!?

I have a comfortable shoulder rest that fits well, but my chinrest is awful. I bought the CUSHY chinrest cover from SHAR, but it didn’t help at all. I also have the IMPRESSIONIST from SHAR and that never works right either. I really would like my neck and chin not hurt when I’m done playing, and I don’t want to have to pay alot of money. HELP!!!

I bought one of those covers, and I didn’t like it either. I felt like it just irritated my skin!

Go to a luthier (string specialist), and try out different chinrests. Look for ones with very rounded edges. I’ve actually found that there are several “cheap” ones which are more comfortable than the more expensive ones. The one I use is the Vermeer chinrest. I ordered it from Shar years ago. It is VERY tall, so I had to lower my shoulder rest a little. I’ve read that it’s more ergonomic to have a taller chinrest and shorter shoulder rest. (I’m not sure that I can tell a difference.)

My source below is the chinrest I have. :)
